Windows

I am still playing with my fascination with windows.  There is something about the frame, and the reflections, and the quiet space that separates you when you look through a window that is very intriguing to me.

Shooting from the Hip – Disconnected

In my exploration of shooting without looking through my camera – I was able to look around and be in a different thought process than I normally am while taking pictures.  It struck me just how “disconnected” people are as they walk through life.  People are on their phones, or lost in their own thoughts, and I could get up very close to people and take their photos without them even paying any attention to me at all.  This “disconnect” seems sad in a way.

Shooting from the hip – Street Portraits

My lovely mentor – Natascha Seideneck, from MSU Denver, repeated the advice that I had heard from several of my critiques at the last residency to “loosen up”!  Her specific suggestion was to get out and literally “shoot from the hip” and to carry my camera around waste high, on auto focus, and just shoot street scenes, people, and anything else that intrigued me.  I wandered around downtown Denver and shot hundreds of photos.  These are some street portraits that I captured of strangers and I was amazed at the process of doing this shooting without my normal obsession over framing, and lighting, etc.  It was very freeing, and I am pleased with some of these images!

So Proud

Both of my sons have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.  My youngest son had his Court of Honor ceremony this weekend.  So many family and friends turned out to share kind words and pride for this fine young man.  What a joyful experience!DSC_2763a

SLO

I absolutely LOVE San Luis Obispo, California!  So happy for my recent visit.  It is a true happy place for me!  Thank you Kurt Brown, for who you are, all you have given me, and the best excuse to come for a visit!  So lovely to see so many dear friends!  I will be back soon – guaranteed.
